GET TO KNOW: Nancy Quintanilla, LAUNCH Program Manager

If you were to take a peek one afternoon into Neighborhood Focus, you’d quickly notice Nancy Quintanilla, our LAUNCH Program Manager, who oversees all of the elementary school age programming and worship time. Just look for the circle of kids around her, and that’s where she’ll be, in the middle of it all. Her bright personality and happy demeanor mean children naturally flock to her.

We sat down with Nancy recently to get to know more about her story and what inspires her. Read on to learn more about Nancy:

Q: What is your primary role at Neighborhood Focus, and what are your goal for the program?

A: I work with more than 30 elementary school students after school, and about 80 students in our summer enrichment program. I develop the elementary school program, which includes supporting their academic growth, helping to guide them spiritually through our worship and Bible Study time, and teaching character education and life skills. I’ve worked with Neighborhood Focus for almost 6 years, having previously served as a tutor and programs administrator.

Q: Where is home for you? What degrees do you hold and from what university and/or college?

A: I’m originally from El Salvador. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from North Greenville University.

Q: What is your favorite thing about working at Neighborhood Focus?

A: There are so many things I love about working at Neighborhood Focus, but perhaps my favorite part is my connection with the kids. I get to know them personally, and see their real character come out. I love getting to know their families, as well. Many of our students face challenges, especially academically. I’m grateful for the tutoring and motivational support we’re able to provide for these students.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Greenville?

A: The Golden Llama restaurant, which serves Peruvian cuisine, is my favorite! But I love trying all kinds of new foods.

Q: What is your favorite song, artist, genre of music?

A: I love listening to Christian music, or any kind of music that shares a positive message.

Q: What do you like to do in your down time? What are your hobbies and interests?

A: I play volleyball with my church, the International Center of Restoration. I also play the guitar. I love spending time with my friends and taking part in the many programs at my church.

Q: Where would you like to travel someday?

A: There are so many places I would like to see! I would love to travel to Korea, and Bolivia, to see some of the awe-inspiring natural wonders found there.

Q: What is something interesting about you most people don't know?

A: I really love to cook, and try new foods. For many people, cooking can feel like a chore, but not for me. Cooking is a way to relax, and I love trying out new recipes. It’s hard for me to pin down a favorite, but two of my “go to” dishes are steak and mashed potatoes, and spaghetti with chicken alfredo sauce.

Q: What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?

A: One of my favorite Bible verses is Proverbs 3:5, which reads, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;”

We hope you’ve enjoyed learning a little more about Nancy! We are so grateful for her contributions to the children at Neighborhood Focus.
