Amy Poon Joins Neighborhood Focus as Director of Out of School Time Operations

Please help us give a warm welcome to Amy Poon, our new Director of Out of School Time Operations! In this role, Amy will oversee the development of the out of school time programming for our afterschool and summer enrichment students, as well as work with our program managers and volunteers.

With separate programs for elementary and middle/high school students, Neighborhood Focus provides much needed year-round academic support, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) enrichment, mentoring, and discipleship. Afterschool, Friday Club, and Summer Day Camps provide high quality, evidence-informed programming in a Christ-centered, bilingual environment.

Prior to joining Neighborhood Focus, Amy served as the Girls’ Program Manager at the Frazee Center, working with 2nd-5th grade students in their afterschool program, in addition to other roles within that nonprofit. In her new position with us, Poon aims to continue building a safe environment where students feel excited about learning and expressing themselves, as well as helping parents access appropriate resources for their children.

Hear what Amy had to say about her new role: “I’m passionate about helping children recognize and cultivate their gifts, develop healthy habits, and experience joy. Through it all, I want children, and the adults in their lives, to be encouraged in the truth that - despite whatever challenges they may face - they are fearfully and wonderfully made.”

Poon earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Asian Studies from Furman University. When she’s not working, Poon enjoys hiking, camping, listening to live music and experimenting in the kitchen.

“Amy is an incredible addition to our already phenomenal team of staff and volunteers committed to helping students who need it most have access to the best academic and character development resources,” said Keith Groce, executive director of Neighborhood Focus. “We look forward to implementing even more research-based programming into our out of school time programming, with Amy leading the charge.”

We are so grateful to have you on our team, Amy, and we look forward to amazing things to come! Leave a comment for Amy below to help welcome her to Neighborhood Focus!
